Golf Headcovers | Take Off the Stock Headcover

If you are a golfer, you know that ever driver, three wood, five wood, hybrid, and putter comes with a golf headcover. They are included for good reason: golf headcovers help to protect your clubs from pounding each other and destroying the face of the club, from pounding each other and destroying the face of the club and they help you make a statement on the golf course. But the stock golf headcover you get with each club do one thing that can potentially cause you big problems - they advertise to everyone around exactly what type of club you have. This makes some people jealous but makes some people opportunistic.

For example, you get your new Titleist D2 driver (which I own by the way) and are all pumped to take it out to the course. When you get to the course you drop your clubs off outside, just like everyone else does, and go inside to pay for your golf, get your logo golf ball (you should always get a logo golf ball), and buy beers. Because you are so pumped about your new club you proudly display your new Titleist D2 headcover. Once you are finished making all of your purchases you come outside, and guess what, your driver is still there! Thank goodness. Or so you think.

As you walk up to the first tee you are pumped because you are about to rock this new driver of yours. You get out of the cart (or put your bag on the ground), grab that new Titleist D2 driver and rip the headcover off, only to see a used knock off underneath! What in the world happened? What happened was someone ran off with your driver, replacing it with an old dodgy one. And why did he replace it and put a different driver in your bag? Because he knew it would take you forever to find out it was gone!

How do you prevent this? Easy. Get yourself a headcover that matches your style. Unless the stock headcover matches your style, you will put a headcover on that makes no statement about what club is underneath. Although I would argue that the college golf headcover you put on can make a determination about what type of club you have (K-State is terrible!), and an animal golf headcover might be a little over the top, you can almost be 100% assured that your driver is safe. Why is that? Because there are tons of people running around out there with the stock headcovers on. And if a thief had a decision between a sure thing and a maybe, what do you think they'll take?

So, go out there and get a golf headcover that represents your style. It is cool and it might save your clubs from getting stolen.

Knit Golf Headcover | Golf Headcover of the Week

I decided in lieu of my love of golf head covers that I would forego writing random posts and start a golf head cover of the week blog, outlining each week a favorite golf cover that I actually own or that I would like to have in the future. That way you all won't get bored of seeing different great golf headcovers every week.

This weeks golf headcover comes to you from a golf gift website. As you can see from the picture, the profile this week covers the knit golf head cover. Made famous by the Irish, those without college or football affiliations, and those without a love for animals, the knit head cover takes one back to yesteryear.

And, truth be told, if I ever see someone step up to the tee box and rip one of these off his or her driver, I immediately know one of two things is true: either this person can really rip it off the tee; or they are terrible. And I can usually guess pretty accurately which way it will be depending on the style of knit. A real flashy knit and this golfer is about to throw up a great score. Something that looks like it came off the shelf at Wal-Mart and I know I better stay out of the line of fire.

Join me next week for the next golf headcover profile.

Animal Golf Headcovers

If college golf head covers aren't your thing, then maybe you should take a look at animal golf head covers. There are tons of choices with animals, and you can even get the head end or the tail end.

A great thing about animal golf club head covers is that you can use them to tell others that you are playing with and others that you meet a little about yourself. Instead of telling people where you went to school, you can let them know you like horses or will be as strong as an ox. Here are a couple of examples of cool animal golf head covers:

As you can see, sporting an animal on your golf club affords a great opportunity to not only protect your clubs from wear and tear and theft, but to show who you are and what you like.

Keep your clubs clean and safe - invest in head covers!!

Lost Golf Head Cover | Emergency or Opportunity?

The other day while on my Las Vegas golf vacation, I lost my favorite golf head cover. It was the college golf head cover I featured in my last post. I'd had that head cover for a long time, several years, and it had been through a lot with me. As I was putting my golf clubs in the car I was thinking to myself, I am at a crossroads right now (it really wasn't this dramatic, but this is fun, right?), I can either trapse around this entire golf course looking for my head cover or I can take this as an opportunity to get out there and find something new.

I've decided to find something new, and I want you all to help (I know with this second post I've already got several devoted readers!). Today's golf head cover is a special one because it is my new second favorite college team. The Washington Husky golf club head cover is gorgeous and does just what it is supposed to do - let everyone know I am a Udub fan. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Pretty darn cute isn't it?

College Golf Head Covers

college head cover
When you take up golf, the first thing you quickly realize is that the head covers that come with most golf clubs are ugly, bulky, and don't make you look very cool. Additionally, having a cover that states what your driver is begs someone to come up and take it! It is well within the normal course of business to leave your golf clubs unattended for extended amounts of time before and after a round (particularly if the fun that should happen at the 19th hole does happen). If you are advertising your driver of choice with a fancy schmancy golf club head cover, you are asking for it to get swiped.

If you went to college, have a favorite college team, or have a son or daughter in college, one of the best things you can throw on your golf clubs is your mascot. Representing your school is critical at all times on the golf course, and your alma mater's paraphernalia should never be hidden away.

For example, I went to the University of Kansas. I love that school and follow it closely. I love telling people I'm from there and love letting people know with my gear, specifically my driver head cover. Getting a college golf head cover is the best thing to do. Check mine out!!
